Success story on Dendrobium Orchids


Through the centrally sponsored scheme, Horticulture Mission for Himalayan and North East Region, Dendrobium Orchid was introduced under the protectedcultivation. Dendrobium Orchid was taken up at Naringre village in Rongjeng Development Block which is about 43km from Williamnagar,where the people living here have very little knowledge of  floriculture.

The beneficiaries namely Christianparachadambe SHG have started this project in the later part of the year 2010 started with unit of an area of 200 sq.m green house,provided with fertigation, irrigation system, water tank and electricity connection. The project is done in a turnkey process whereby the M/S Zopar Export provide necessary support. The Planting materials were imported Thailand. In an area of 200sq.m it accommodates 2000 nos. of plants.

The first harvest started after 9 to 10 months of planting.The production is on an average 150 to 200 spikes per week from this unit. The return from the farms per week is about Rs 4000/- .The Group has harvested more than 4000 spikes in four months. The farmers find that this project is reliable and economically viable and many more express their willingness to expand and increase the acreage. The groups are workinghard to get the best harvest, this inculcates in them the sense of working hard which always rich dividend.
