Laitkynsew,located at about 15 Kms from Sohra, is one of the villages in East Khasi Hills which has a great potential for vegetable cultivation., Laitkynsew is well known for its organic farming of vegetables especially local tomato, cabbage, mustard, lettuce etc. Vegetable cultivation has been the main occupation of the people and acts as a mean of livelihood for so many years. Lumwahkrem is one of the locations under Laitkynsew where people earn and support their family by growing and selling vegetables. Shri.Larsing Khyllep,53years, a hard working farmer, whose main source of income is none other than growing and selling vegetables. He has been selected as one of the beneficiaries under HMNEH Scheme 2011-12 for cabbage cultivation (Hybrid) in 1hac of land. The result is very success with the investment of ` 96,000/ yield a return of ` 1,97,000/-. His success has drawn the attention of his neighbours and all the farmers in this area and was challenge to take up farming in a large scale.
